What Is Concrete?

Concrete is one of the most used building products when it comes to new construction here in the United States. The reason being that it has a higher moisture resistance and is a solid product to help survive the elements and fight against aging as the years go by.

Concrete is a mix of water, cement, and aggregate. The aggregate can include sand, and a rock mix. The aggregate’s purpose is to reduce the amount of mix of cement but bring the durability of the concrete higher. The water and cement are one of the most vital parts to this blend, due to the fact it causes a chemical reaction to stiffen the entire mix to form the finished solid product.

Because concrete, at first, is the likes of a liquid there is certain way to pump through a hose to place in the desired location to settle. The aggregate will settle to the bottom as some of the water starts to rise to the surface. The Concrete Finishers will then be able to level and smooth the concrete, then leave it to solidify. The Concrete Finishers will also smooth the surface to give a consistent and appealing finish to the concrete.

How Does Concrete Pumping Work?

The way the concrete is pumped is left up to the operator, on how fast to push the concrete through the hoses and into the desired location. There are multiple pump systems, the ones we use are trailer pumps and boom pumps. The pump is a hydraulic system that uses high pressure to push the concrete mix through a set of hoses. This will make the process of pouring easier, safer and quicker.

The trailer pumps are more suitable for small pours and a closer location to the desired area for the concrete to be poured. The types of trailers vary and there are two main types to handle a certain kind of mix. The trailer for the a big-rock mix can also handle the a small-rock mix, but the trailer for small-rock cannot handle the big-rock mix. The boom pump is most used for much larger pours, longer reach for desired pour location, and elevated areas to pour. The two types of boom pumps we use have the capability to extend and reach either 38 meters or 40 meters away from the pump itself.

To operate the trailer and boom pumps there must be plenty of training and safety involved. It may not seem like it but there are plenty of dangers that can come from concrete pumping. Here at Keller Construction, we strive to put safety and quality of work first. Our company has over 30 years of experience when it comes to concrete pumping and masonry.
